Self Harm Incidents

PARENT ALERT! This has been brought to our attention. When concerns
are sent to us, we pass them along as an FYI – For Your Information.

DANGEROUS GAME. A very dangerous game called The Blue Whale
Challenge (or the Blue Whale Game) has been brought to our attention. It is our
understanding that this very dangerous game may have possibly already been
introduced in many communities. We have learned this game or challenge possibly began in Russia, and it is basically a challenge to harm yourself for fifty
days, with the intention being to ultimately kill yourself on the fiftieth day.
Teenagers supposedly “tag” each other on social media (Snapchat primarily) and
challenge them to play. The student then downloads the Blue Whale app, which
hacks into their personal information and cannot be deleted. The app
originators then threaten the teenagers with harm to their families or
releasing of personal information until they kill themselves. Please be
aware of your child’s social media habits. Make sure to take time to
speak to your children about Internet Safety.

Identified below are several news articles about the game that may
better help you to understand the seriousness of this issue. (We do not

Mathematics Placement Act of 2015

Access to mathematics courses that prepare students for college and career is essential for student success after high school. All students should have the opportunity to excel in mathematics, not just students who plan to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). With fair, objective, and transparent placement policies in place, California’s high school students will benefit from challenging mathematics courses that support their college and career goals.

Senate Bill 359 (Chapter 508, Statutes of 2015), known as the California Mathematics Placement Act of 2015, was signed by Governor Jerry Brown on October 5, 2015, and took effect on January 1, 2016.

The California Mathematics Placement Act of 2015 requires the governing boards or bodies of local educational agencies (LEAs) that serve pupils entering grade nine and that have not already done so to adopt “a fair, objective, and transparent mathematics placement policy” before the beginning of the 2016–17 school year.
The Procedures and Policy are in the process of being translated into spanish
